Il Salviatino is a dream, my dream...
The first time I saw the Villa, derelict but beautiful, on top of a hill in Fiesole, I knew it would be my perfect hotel.
It took a long time to negotiate the purchase and there were moments when I wondered whether I was mad to continue and whether we would ever complete the complicated transaction... but we did, and what a moment when the papers were finally signed and sealed! It was ours at last!
Whilst elated, our courage sometimes failed us. The Villa was in a bad way and needed a huge amount of love and dedication to turn it into our vision - after forty years in luxury travel - quite simply our version of the perfect hotel.
Il Salviatino is a unique property, an aristocratic Florentine villa, with a personality we had to protect. During the restoration, the Villa revealed so many surprises; extraordinary frescoes hidden underneath a false ceiling; a sarcophagus belonging to a previous owner born again as a spectacular bath in a guest suite and an intricate network of old pathways through the estate buried for years by the undergrowth. Each step has been an exciting and breathtaking journey.
Throughout the project, we endeavored to maintain the integrity of the Villa and to be true to its history. We relied heavily on local artisans and watched with fascination the painstaking processes of washing and replacing centuries-old mosaics, the re-paneling of the old library and the careful restoration of glass houses which have been empty for decades.
Highly acclaimed Italian architect Luciano Colombo searched the world for impeccable art and pieces of furniture, with a dedication usually reserved for one’s own home.
We believe in creating a truly unforgettable experience. The addition of Service Ambassadors to cater for guest’s every whim from beginning to end will be an integral part of the experience. We understand not only how impactful first and last days can be but also the days’ in-between...
Our guests know who they are, what they want and what they don’t want. They’ re culturally aware, passionate and sophisticated. We will offer them a taste of something quite different and forever memorable.
Now the Villa has been restored to its original splendor and I hope it reflects our ceaseless passion for art, history and beautiful things but most importantly a warmth and hospitality for which we in Italy are well known.
Together with my son, Marcello Malik, Cabot Square Capital, our financial partner, and a team of incredible people, we have worked tirelessly to create this dream, our dream... and we hope you enjoy it.
